ഫ്ലാഷ് ന്യൂസ് 2013 മാര്‍ച്ചിലെ എസ്.എസ്.എല്‍.സി പരീക്ഷ പ്രൈവറ്റ് വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ എഴുതുന്നതിന് വിവിധ കാരണങ്ങളാല്‍ ഇതുവരെയും രജിസ്റര്‍ ചെയ്യാന്‍ കഴിയാത്തവര്‍ക്ക് ഒരവസരം കൂടി നല്‍കുന്നു. ഇതിനായി തിരുവനന്തപുരം എസ്.എം.വി. മോഡല്‍ ഗവ. ഹൈസ്കൂളിനെ പരീക്ഷാസെന്ററായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പരീക്ഷാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ ആവശ്യമുള്ള രേഖകളും ഓരോ പേപ്പറിനും മുന്നൂറ് രൂപ ഫൈനും സഹിതം തിരുവനന്തപുരം എസ്.എം.വി. മോഡല്‍ ഗവ. ഹൈസ്കൂള്‍ ഹെഡ്മാസ്റര്‍ മുമ്പാകെ ഫെബ്രുവരി 23, 25 തീയതികളില്‍ ഹാജരാകണമെന്ന് പരീക്ഷാ സെക്രട്ടറി അറിയിച്ചു. ഒന്‍പത്, പത്ത് ക്ളാസുകളില്‍ പഠിക്കുന്ന പട്ടികജാതി കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് നൂറ് ശതമാനം കേന്ദ്ര സഹായത്തോടെയുള്ള സ്കോളര്‍ഷിപ്പിനായി അപേക്ഷ ക്ഷണിച്ചു. 2012-13 വര്‍ഷത്തില്‍ സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍, സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ അംഗീകൃത, സി.ബി.എസ്.ഇ.യോ, സംസ്ഥാന ഹയര്‍ സെക്കന്ററി ബോര്‍ഡോ അംഗീകരിച്ച സ്കൂളുകളില്‍ ഒന്‍പത്, പത്ത് ക്ളാസുകളില്‍ പഠിക്കുന്ന പട്ടികജാതി കുട്ടികള്‍ക്കാണ് സ്കോളര്‍ഷിപ്പ് ലഭിക്കുക. പ്രൈവറ്റ് അണ്‍ എയ്ഡഡ് വിദ്യാലയങ്ങളില്‍ പഠിക്കുന്ന ശാരീരിക പരിമിതിയുള്ള പട്ടികജാതിയില്‍പ്പെട്ട വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ക്കും സ്കോളര്‍ഷിപ്പ് ലഭിക്കും. വിശദവിവരങ്ങളും അപേക്ഷാഫോറവും ബ്ളോക്ക്/ജില്ലാ പട്ടികജാതി വികസന ഓഫീസില്‍ ലഭ്യമാണ്. അപേക്ഷ ലഭിക്കേണ്ട അവസാന തീയതി മാര്‍ച്ച് അഞ്ച്.

September 11th marks the passing of French astronomer Joseph-Nicolas Delisle. Among his accomplishments, he was the person who proposed the mechanism behind the sun dog phenomenon.

Sun dogs, or "perhelia" are the bright rainbows that occasionally occur on either side of the sun. They are formed when ice crystals form in the upper atmosphere and reflect the sunlight. If the sun is high enough, a halo or ring can form around the sun. Moon dogs are the same phenomenon at night with the moon.

I am not sure of the origin of the term "sun dog". I have seen references in Greek and Chinese mythology, but have not found any definitive origin. Pass along any stories you have heard about it and find out what else occurred on this day in science history.
